!PERSONAL INTERVIEW: by Donald LeRoy Spidell

1. NAME: My maiden name is, Frances E. McKernan. 2. BIRTH: I was born on 24 Apr 1914, Sioux City, Iowa. 3. RELIGION: I was baptised June 1938 in the First Christian Church. My parents were in the Salvation Army and my maternal grandparents were Protestant. 4. HOME: My first home was near Sioux City, Iowa. We lived on the Ruff place, an acreage outside of Sioux City. 5. PARENTS: They worked very hard. 6. GRANDPARENTS: We went to our grandparent's home every Thanksgiving in Riverside, Iowa & slept all night on the porch floor. My grandfathers both died before I can remember. My grandmothers were typical 7. AS A YOUNG ADULT: I was very religious & I attended the Salvation Army College. I left work to marry in 1939. 8. GRADE SCHOOL: Crescent Park in Sioux City, Iowa, and my best subjects were Public Speaking and Band. 9. HIGH SCHOOL: Stadium High School in Tacoma, Washington. 10. THE DEPRESSION: I couldn't go on to school as I wanted to. 11. PROHIBITION: It never affected us, as we were very religious. 12. COLLEGE: Salvation Army Training College, San Francisco, California. Where met my husband. 13. MARRIAGE: Edwin J. Gilmore, 1968, 1st Christian Church, Miles City, Montana

NOTE: It is apparent here that she doesn't speak of her first marriage. Chronologically, it appears that after high school, she couldn't go on to college, so she went to work, she was then baptised into the 1st Christian Church in 1938, and she was married to her first husband in 1939. Later she was able to go to college, but by then she was again, apparently single.
