1. NAME: My maiden name is, Clara Ione Weddle 2. BIRTH: I was born on a farm just south of Jefferson, South Dakota. 3. RELIGION: I was baptised when 12 years old. We were of Protestant faith. 4. HOME: My first home was a two room log cabin, which my father built. 5. PARENTS: We were loved and in return we loved our parents. 6. AS A YOUNG ADULT: I grew up very fast, as my father was killed where he worked when I was 13 years old. 7. GRADE SCHOOL: North Riverside, Sioux City, Iowa 8. HIGH SCHOOL: I did not attend. 9. FIRST DATE: I don't remember my first date, but I worked in a hotel a block from my home. There I met Fred McKernan, and our first date was at church. 10. PROHIBITION: I remember prohibition; it never affected us, as we were never drinkers, but those who were seemed able to get it. 11. MARRIAGE: I was married to Fred McKernan by a Salvation Army minister in his home in Sioux City. 12. HIGH SCHOOL: I did not attend. 14. HUSBAND: Fred McKernan was a very good father & husband. He worked at a Junior High School until he passed away. 15. DEATH OF HUSBAND: Tacoma, Washington - 8 April 1934. 16. HUSBAND'S PARENTS: They lived in Dakota City, Nebraska. I only saw Fred's father a few times. He was in bed, sick, for several months and passed away 20 Dec 1906. His mother passed away 1935. She lived close to Dakota City. 17. BIRTH OF HUSBAND: 3 April 1878, in West Branch, Iowa, the same town as the home of Herbert Hoover. Your grandmother took Herbert Hoover to school when he first started. 18. THE DEPRESSION: Did not really affect us too much. 19. PRESIDENT F.D.R.: I liked him. I had three boys who could never have graduated except for the N.Y.A. 20. PEARL HARBOR: We were at home in Kent, Washington. I had remarried 18 Sep 1940. My youngest son was in the National Guard and Tim was already in the Navy. My concern was for them.
