Welcome to the SPEIDEL mailing list Home Page! Here you will find instructions on how to subscribe and how to unsubscribe from one or both of two SPEIDEL mailing lists.
However, first a word about the lists. I have left the lists open, so anyone who wants to send a message to the list can do so by sending e-mail to: SPEIDEL-L@rootsweb.com. Unfortunately, this sometimes leaves a mailing list open to spam. RootsWeb now has a program that blocks spam from the list. Unfortunately they also block mail with attachments and mail with html in it. So no attachments and only plain text e-mail please.

O.K. I mentioned two e-mail lists. Actually there is just one list with two modes.
Mode #1 is the mail mode, in which every time a person sends a message to the list, every single member of the list will get a copy of the message as soon as the mailing list daemon can turn it around and spit it out.
Mode #2 is the "digest mode", which means that several postings made to the SPEIDEL list will be consolidated together and sent to you as a single large message.
The directions on how to swubscribe to the list are given below.

1. How to subscribe to mail mode:  Send a message to
   • SPEIDEL-L-request@rootsweb.com
   • that contains (in the body of the message) the command
   • subscribe
   • and no additional text.
2. How to unsubscribe from mail mode:  Send a message to
   • SPEIDEL-L-request@rootsweb.com
   • that contains (in the body of the message) the command
   • unsubscribe
   • and no additional text.

   

3. How to subscribe to digest mode:  Send a message to
   • SPEIDEL-D-request@rootsweb.com
   • that contains (in the body of the message) the command
   • subscribe
   • and no additional text.
4. How to unsubscribe from digest mode:  Send a message to
   • SPEIDEL-D-request@rootsweb.com
   • that contains (in the body of the message) the command
   • unsubscribe
   • and no additional text.

   

5. How to change from one mode to another.
   • There are two steps:
     • First, send the command "unsubscribe" to the list to which you are currently subscribed to discontinue that mode.
     • Second, send the command "subscribe" to the mode to which you wish to be subscribed.

   

6. How to change to NOMAIL mode:  There is no formal NOMAIL mode. All you have to do is follow the directions above and unsubscribe when you want the messages to stop, and then when you want them to start again, simply subscribe again.
7. If you'd like to post a message so everyone on the mailing list receives it, just send it to SPEIDEL-L@rootsweb.com.  It will then be sent on to everyone in both mail and digest mode. You don't need to send it explicitly to both.
